Well, here is my take on things. Everyone wants to belong somewhere. People don't go to bars just for drink (it'd be cheaper to get them from the market) - they go to bars for fellowship with others. What's the difference brtween a $5 steak and a $50 steak? Usually the "ambiance". We all want to go where we are known.
Panache put it right when he laid it all out for us. Thank you!!
Whether we call it a clan, a family or whatever else - it is still what we all came here for! I have only found this place recently and already I feel at home here. There has been wisdom, friendship, discussion and invitations.
The paintball team that I captain is comprised of individuals with their own families and backgrounds. Together we share in something special - a brotherhood. If the sport were the only thing that brought us together then most of us wouldn't have bothered.
The modern university comes from the melding of two words: unity and diversity. togetherness through all the different fields of learning.
I call it "Chosen Unity". A choice to be together and grow together. Of course that means I like the suggested motto: "Not by blood but by choice."
HAIL CLAN X!!

We discuss at length the difference between pink and maroon

A certain soldier known famously as Private Doughnut would probably remind us all that it's NOT PINK - it's LIGHT MAROON!

The old Clan system evolved for the same reasons this one did. Mutual support, protection, and identity.
We have read of our Clan members trials and tribulations and assisted where we could. We have fought to end oppression. We have found each other by gathering around our Tartan and Crest which are recognized world wide.
In many ways this Clan is more real, more active, more meaningful to many of us than our Clans of old.
I for one am proud to claim X Marks MY Clan.
Now all we need is a catchy theme song.
With that in mind...has anyone come up with an "X Marks the Scot" tartan??

Vafuth,
See the border of your screen. This is the X-Marks tartan, and is proudly worn by many of the members of the board. When a bolt is woven, it goes fast.

Ancienne Alliance,
There is just such an invasion of the UK planned for 2009. Our beloved and revered Hamish has invited any and all of the rabble to meet in Storrington for a Gathering.
I know Bobbie and I are stuffing all our pocket change in a jar to afford the trip. We hope to begin in the Highlands of Scotland and visit with as many of our brethren as possible on our drive to Hamish's house where we hope to be able to be allowed a glimpse of THE KILT KOLLECTION through the window. .

See this post for a collection of kilts in XMarksTheScot tartan.

Then, if you click on "Forums" in the navigation box and scroll down to X Marks The Scot.com Propaganda, you'll see the various forum related articles - including tartan - that are currently approved and periodically produced.
