Kilt Awareness Marker. We Be Doin' Well

So, I have a lesbian friend of a few years who moved away a couple years ago but still comes back to Page to visit and enjoy the recreation in the area. She is visiting this weekend with a girlfriend attending a lesbian campout at the lake. They went hiking yesterday and are out hiking today.

My friend invited me to meet them for dinner last night. Was probably the only time I'd have to hang out and catch up so I grabbed it. We met at one of our SIX local Mexican restaurants (not bad for a town of 6,800 eh?).

I wore my X Marks the Scot Navy t-shirt with my USA Kilts Navy semi-trad and Navy Lewis kilt hose. It was really good to see my friend again and meet her girlfriend. Was one of those "up" times.

After we settled in our booth and ordered my friend's girlfriend looks across the table at me and says with all seriousness, "Have you ever heard of Utilikilts?"

Ya gotta love it! Sure, I pulled a UK business card out of my sporran and told her I'd owned 15 of them. What is such a great thing to me is here we are deep in a small remote town in the canyonlands and a lesbian lady is wanting to make sure I don't miss out on contemporary kilts.

Is that market penetration or what?

    We shall overcome!

Seriously, that's pretty nifty. Most often, what I get asked is, "where can I get a kilt like that," and I generally either have a stillwater card in my sporran, or a blank card I can write that URL and this one on, fairly quickly. I should probably get some printed up, come to think of it...

That's good. I should get some cards too because a few people have asked me where to get kilts. Usually get asked at Walmart...

When i'm asked where i got any kilt i'm wearing i refer them to here.

Tell them do do some research and learn more about them before deciding on what and where to buy one.

    I need some XMARK cards.
Come to think of it just now-I might just make up some of my own an print it out on my Photo printer.

Ron.Sounds like you had a nice evening out to dinner.

Ya, the X Marks the Scot card would probably be the best to give out, but one lady wanted to know the exact place that I got a spacific kilt from. It wouldn't hurt to have a few cards for each of my kilts.

I bet that Ron was wearing Z coils and talked about those too... He's just not telling us.

I went to a wedding and reception for a good friend a few weeks ago and wore my MacDonald of Glencoe Newsome box pleat with an Argyle jacket. On one of my trips to the dance floor, a youngster stopped me and said, "dude, you need to get a Utilikilt". I told him I had three of them as well as 12 more other kilts in the closet. That left him speechless - so he gave me the thumbs up.

    It's working.

"Oh, they're right over there, in aisle seven..."

You know, if kilts really take off, it's only a matter of time before Wal-Mart starts selling knock-offs. :P

    Ron,
That's great! Have you shared it with UK?
From what I've seen, kilts, with special emphasis on UKs, are getting quite popular in the LBGT community. I've seen a fair few at Pride parades and other events.

Yeh - but they would contact the Gold Brothers.

When making up X-Marks business cards print the URL's of your top kilt makers on the back. When asked where you got that kilt, flip the card over circle or check the appropriate kilt maker and pass the card along.
