I was thinking... One of those shallow straw hats with the wide flat brims would probably go well with a kilt. I think of the Caribian and beaches connected with those kind of hats, but I think they would be fine with a kilt for some reason. I don't even know what they are called.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Those are called 'boaters', but like the driver's cap (flat cap, touring cap, etc.), they probably have another name.

We used to have to wear "boaters" at school and they are awfull to wear and difficult to keep on.They are made of a dense straw and then seemed to be dipped in a glue that made them very dense and actually surprisingly heavy and with no "give" at all.Along with the Glengarry I would bannish the "boater" to the nearest fire.
