I have a few pictures of polo shirts with my kilts and one with a short sleve dress shirt with tie up in the gallery. I live out here in the desert, so it's not too unusual to wear short sleve dress shirts. There's a link to all my pictures in my signature. Some of them are very casual though.

Here is a link to my pictures that are posted in the casual kilt pictures thread.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

    How 'bout these casual guys?

Or this casual band? (Montreat Scottish Society Pipes and Drums: Montreat, NC)

OK...maybe this is a bit too casual. :-) (Never fall asleep when there are cameras available!)

I wear an aloha shirt and pith helmet with mine. Since I get away with that (though that might have something to do with my inherent eccentricity [like writing kilted parodies of Gilbert and Sullivan]), I think you can get away with a t-shirt.

As Tartan Hiker demonstrated, pictures are useful for figuring out what look you like. You therefore might want to browse the Show Us Your Pics Style Threads to check out what others are wearing with their kilts.

I use Polo shirt or jacobite shirt or better silk shirt with long sleeves made shorter by rolling (as in the pic I use as avatar)

Polo shirts and short-sleeved button-through shirts (safari or plain) do it for me. I still buy plain coloured T-shirts (not keen on logos and messages), which I tend to wear as a contrasting under-shirt but in a colour to compliment the base tartan colour.

As has been said, the important thing is to select a shirt in the colour of one that features in your tartan - the base colour or another significant one, although beige or white will also work well with almost any tartan. Less obvious colours in the tartan are best picked out by wearing flashes to match - assuming you are wearing your hose pulled up! Flashes are not worn with scrunched or folded down hose, of course.

You might find some interesting examples in my photo album (16 pages and 180 images) via the link below.

    Take care,
    Ham.

Something like this works, matching your hose and shirt.

Although the shirt does not match, I think this works as well.

An example of t-shirt and hose down, with a contemporary kilt.

Of course you could wear a rugby shirt, either long sleeve...

    or short sleeve.

    Hope this helps.

I pretty much only wear t-shirts for working out and I don't do that in a kilt so, for me, t-shirts and kilts don't go. However I am quite fond of polos (either plan or with an embroidered crest) with a kilt. My personal favourite for casual though, is probably a short sleeved safari shirt as I just find them much cooler.
