Ah yes, but most balls will state, civilian attire in lieu of Class A’s with white shirt and bow tie, Dress Blues, Mess Dress, or equivalent to Black Tie, i.e. tuxedo, which the wearing of any kilt no matter the tartan, PC jacket, vest, and bow tie is clearly an acceptable alternative to the tuxedo.
I am wearing my USA tartan and if the masses do not like it then too bad, it is a ball, not a dining in or dining out where the only authorized uniform is Class A’s with white shirt and bow tie, Dress Blues, or Mess Dress. There are only three people that know what I am wearing to the 08 Signal Ball, my boss an O4, and O2, and my civilian GS11 counterpart.

Very nice! I'd prefer the regimental crest. In fact, I just might try that. Thanks for the idea!
