Your plight reminds me a bit of my Forensics career back in high school. I did Dramatic Reading and the rules explicitly stated NO COSTUMES...yeah...right.

Bear in mind that this was in the late 1960's...

One notorious scofflaw was a girl who did a reading from the play "Victoria Regina" and managed to show up in a whole lot of lace and a black velour dress. I, myself, was doing a reading from Orwells's "1984" and basically ended up wearing a brown suit, brown shirt and a black necktie...I looked like I belonged at a fascist rally...costume? Not me.....

Having had jury duty here in Chicago, I can assure you that the judges don't hesitate to tell anybody in the court room what they think of them. Enjoy the kilted victory while you can.
