    New toy for the family

My dad picked this up at the local swap meet, and passed it on to me...

He paid a whole $75.00 for it. For those of you who are thinking "Boy, that's a long bass guitar", you're right. It's an electric upright bass. On the back is a socket for using a drum stand with it.

The future step-daughter plays upright bass. She'll be thrilled when she sees it.

I was thinking "who put a Fender Jazz neck on a Gibson Thunderbird body?"

Whoa. Better not let the Marine!Goth see that one, he's got ENOUGH! I think the count is three now, or maybe four. Classic/old school jazz String Bass, Fender electric bass, mid price acoustic bass (slightly battered from a trip to the sandbox),.... I think he collects the things.

He couldn't play something small! LOL

Congrats on the score! I'm sure your daughter will love it!

Actually I think this is an upright electric bass.

There also exist electric double-basses, with a regular bridge, tailpiece, and neck; but a tiny body. Often the pick-up is built into the bridge; I think I've seen one with two different pick-ups.
