Save your change
After wearing kilts for a number of years I got tired of people asking me "is that your family's tartan?" I own a number of kilts, but none in the Kerr tartan. I bartend at night in a restaurant, and as such I have developed quite an extensive amount of change. I had decided to save it for a rainy day. Now, too, whenever I break a dollar that change goes in a jar.
Pictured above is over $500 in change. Being that I am graduating, again, on May 10, I decided I wanted to graduate in the Kerr tartan. So in January I placed an order with Matt Newsome to have my kilt made. I received it mid-march. As was expected, its absolutely beautiful.
So here's a picture of me in what I intend to be wearing Saturday morning. Some parts of my ensemble are new, and some are belonged to family members who are no longer with us.
My Sgian is a knife which was given to my grandfather by someone as thanks for his many years of service to the New York State Conservation Council. My Grandfather as well as my father and myself are all NYS Hunter Safety Instructors.
The sheathe was made by this site's own Cavscout, who beautiful made this piece to match my blade.
My tie also previously owned by my Grandfather, and it belonged to his father. The fish pin is a Muskellunge. My Grandfather spent most of his life out on the lakes of Canada hunting these beautiful fish. I've been using this pin as a kilt pin.
My shoes I must replace before Saturday, though. I had a pair of military dress shoes which I have long worn with my kilts. But alas, they are a bit too worn out now. So I have to make a run somewhere to get a new pair friday

Congratulations on the Graduation, and the wonderful looking Kerr Tartan kilt, all in all a fine looking outfit, made that much better by the significance of pieces. You wear it well. It really is nice to be able to wear pieces that were handed down, some of my favourite pieces have been passed to me by family members.

You look fantastic, and I know that I would be proud to wear items such as you have, handed down through the family. I think that is just superb.

You look smashing! Who'd have thought that change would add up to a new kilt?

That outfit is exactly what Clans and Tartan should be! Well done! Congratulations on the Achievement!
