Nice look with the denim. I have sewn two denim kilts thus far. One is black in which i had plenty of fabric. It was also my first attempt at making a kilt and has plenty of errors. The second is in green denim and follows Barb T's book, and therefore is better. I admire the denim with contrasting thread and the tartan in the pleats. That must produce a nice effect when they open and close. The first kilt does look rather well on you. I am writing this when I should really be stitching on some wool tartan that I have been working on for over a year.
Thank you for sharing.

I really shouldn't admit that I used Barb's book as a reference for this, since I did a highly mediocre job. That said, her book is such an amazing resource, and I couldn't have made it without it. It also helped that I had made a few x-kilts and I was a bit less nervous about making mistakes.
As for steampunk, I have definitely noticed a growing interest. Maybe I'll start a new thread and see if we can come up with some more great ideas, and direction.
