    "pipers" hose

I am not an authority on highland attire. I have only done a modest reading of appropriate books and related articles. I only have about 20 books on the subject.

I am an authority on what I wear, and as a full time kilt wearer I have a slightly more experienced eye and viewpoint on what works for me, and what accessories could work for others.

I have big 19” calves and as such, tend to be really picky in the hose that I wear.

I had never purchased “Pipers” hose, cause I’m not a piper. But a while back I got a pair, and have now worn and washed them four times and I really like them. They are quite long and the fold down part tends to be very thick. They easily fit over my hagrid sized calves. The top is described some places as being a “popcorn” knit.

I really like them and I will soon get some more colors to augment the pair of green ones that I have tested.

I've got pipers hose in lovat green and I really like them with more casual wear. They have a rugged look about them that I think goes well with a kilt.

    Hey yall -

I've been piping for quite a while. And in all that time, no one has ever pulled me aside to tell me, "Pssstt - only pipers can wear this style of hosiery".

Wear whatever strikes your fancy. For that matter, I'm not even certain exactly what constitutes 'pipers hose'.

If anyone challenges you about it, tell 'em to go pound some sand.

    Slainte,
    steve

I've got one pair of navy popcorn top hose. I am tall and they are well over the knee when they are unfolded. I really like them. My wife has ordered me to "get black hose like your navy ones." My daughter is getting married and I am wearing my new MacPhearson Hunting. It has a lot of black, so I have to get matching hose.

    Is she great or what?

I have several pairs in a variety of colors and love them all. They are not the fanciest hose in the wardrobe but are definitely the most flexible for use, comfortable to wear, great length, and a great value. I got mine for $22 each at scottishlion-----all but the pure white ones are mostly wool-----and if you buy more than $100 at a time shipping is free. Only wish they came in a few more colors,

Is the add on Scottish lions web site incorrect? It says the hose are 80% acrylic and 20% nylon?

    Piper's Hose

I've been asked to knit piper's hose, lady who ordered said they must be in pure white with a popcorn pattern. Her son wil be piping at the national Mod I think...She said not off-white but pure white, it was a bit of a hassle trying to get the wool but should be reaching me tomorrow.
