It's always good to see a rail line reopen Alex and cock a snook at Dr Beeching!

Ours reopened a couple of months ago but without steam trains and without cilts!

Thanks for the splendid pictures, Alex. Did you get an opportunity to ride the steam train? That 60's locomotive has a windscreen reminiscent of an F-102.

And thanks, Barry for answering the question of what became of the rail lines in Britain. Are there plans to reestablish any other routes?

Great pictures Alex.Sadly steam trains are not too popular up here at the moment. We had a visiting steam train come to Fort William the other day that set fire to the surrounding countryside with sparks and just when the army, fire service and others had put out the fire, the train did the ruturn trip and started even more fires. There are two resident steam trains at Fort William that do a daily service to Mallaig, in the summer months, they do not seem to cause any trouble. You train buffs may know the answer to this, could there be a spark filter(?) placed somewhere on the engine to stop the danger of setting the countryside afire?

I am always amazed at how clean the trains form Scotland look, the ballast and trackside are so pristine one might think you were looking at a model railway if it were not for the people in the photos.
