Don't you LOVE packages with a postmark like this.......

    ROYAL MAIL!!!!
Just seeing the little crown makes me smile like a maniac!

Because inside the package will be things like this........

The top length is 10 ounce for my skirt from CLANTARTANPLAID

The bottom length is 16 oz Strome from Lochcarron for JC's first tank. That one will be knife pleated to the sett.

    Both are Ancient MacKenzie.

JC wants to do a military (stripe) pleat in the MacKenzie as well, but will probably get a WPG Seaforth Milsup for that one.

Just touching the fabric is a delight to the senses.

Yaaaay! Congratulations. Those are very pretty.

I recently got 2 in one week: one from CLANTARTANPLAID, one from seller bobilishious. Both transactions were most satisfactory.

    Karla,
I just finished two kilts in that tartan. One to the red stripe and one to the sett. Because the sett is huge, ~13", the kilt to the sett had 2" wide pleat reveal.
    Good luck,

Yeah, I was playing with it this afternoon and seeing what I could do with it. Those are going to be some DEEP pleats and it's going to weight a TON LOL.

The pleats don't all have to be the same width. I have a Macpherson large set kilt where some pleats are smaller than others. The parts with blue and red stripes have to be full set but the green/black can be half set as well as the white stripe. If I'm not wearing my Macpherson kilt at the Games I will bring it so you can see what I mean.

If it was pleated to the white stripe it could be half sets and the pleats will be reasonable sized.

I wonder if the uneven pleats will effect the swing+swoosh = swing

I may have to pleat this one to the white stripe. I'll talk to the boy. I do want to try my hand at pleating to the sett, but this may not be the tartan to learn on.

The other 'family' tartan is Lamont (Lemon) and looks a little more possible for pleating to the set.

Remember that, with a tartan like this, you can "cheat the pleats" to get more pleats in. With only a few exceptions, each tartan element is repeated twice per sett. So, you can go over less than one full sett to pick up the element. Depending on where you start, you might wind up having to have one or two really deep pleats (full sett), but it won't show except from the back of the kilt.

That's a better alternative than pleats with a large reveal, and it will swing better.
