    Demolay1310,
First: Hello and a warm from Boston, Massachusetts. I have been wearing the kilt all my life. Wearing the kilt is a natural for me. My sons (adopted) took to the kilt after going to enough pipe concerts, Ren-faires, and other Scot oriented activities with me. It took many for the oldest one. After being the only kids in jeans at a couple of events, they warmed to the kilt at these events ONLY for quite some time. After a while they started wearing the kilt to family gatherings, then the youngest tried out as a drummer for a pipe band....then he wouldn't get out of the kilt! When the younger one started wearing the kilt to school with plenty of reinforcement from his dads, the older one jumped right in not wanting to be outdone by his brother. Be patient. The sibling dynamic will work it all out after a time.

    Chef,
Great deal.. I am happy for your sons experiencing the kilt at an early age. It will be a natural for all time.

We were having the same issue with my 9 year old nephew. What helped us is to show him pictures of other kids his age in kilts, and also pictures of "warriors" (think Brave Heart) in kilts, and things like that. Not sure if this would help or not. My 4 year old is excited to wear a "Scotland kilt" just like Daddy. Guess he's still young enough to not question it, lol.

That's right, Obi-Wan Kenobi wears kilts.

That not gutsy enough for him? How about this?

Real Men wear kilts? Craig Smith wears kilts, and I'll tell you right now that I'm not walking up to Craig Smith and telling him he's a panzy for wearing a skirt..

But you know what is the BEST advertisement for Real Men Wear Kilts? It's not Ewan or Liam or some video game or movie. It's not a Highland Athlete that he's never heard of.

The best advertisement for Real Men Wear Kilts is when his DAD wears a kilt. I'm not his dad, but I'll tell you, mate...whoever you are and wherever you are.

*I* wear kilts. I, Me, this guy....wear kilts. I wear them whenever I feel like it, and I tell you right now that a MAN does not roll over and DIE because a few stupid people think it's "gai" to wear a kilt.

....and yes, I use that stupid and offensive term absolutely and entirely on purpose, as totally asinine as it is, because that is what you will hear at school, won' t you?. So dude, if you just really HATE kilts, hate everything about it, then wear the thing when you have to because your parents make you wear it. That's fine. Whatever. It's part of the deal when you're a kid.

But if you won't wear a kilt because you're worried about what other people will say....because you're afraid of some jerk at school seeing you and giving you a hard time, well you know what that is? Look up in this post a couple of lines and you'll see the word. I bet you've heard it before.

    In the server room.

    In the desert.

I know a dozen guys your age who play in pipe bands that wear kilts.

That last message was for you, specifically. Drag the guy to some Games and take him over to see the athletics. Also, let him see that there are teenage guys (and girls) in teh pipe bands.

    It'll help. I think.
