I don't think it looks too long at all. I'm 5'9" and I wondered the same thing when I got mine. Then I did the "kneeling test". I passed. If the kilt just barely touches the ground when you kneel, then you are golden. The front apron shouldn't rumple up. Easy.
But think of it this way, better to have the kilt a wee bit long, than to have it too short.
Case in point...
