    SWK Saffron

    Hey yall,

I was just wondering about the SWK Standard Saffron. I want an orange kilt to wear to Clemson football games, but I know that's not gonna happen, so my best bet is a Saffron, which I want anyways b/c it's Irish (Douglas Hyde wore a Saffron kilt). Can anyone tell me how close Saffron is to orange on the SWK Standard???

IrishGodfather, the SWK saffron appears to me to be more of a burnt orange (think Texas Longhorns) than bright orange. I'm not sure that it would give you the look you want. Understand, I don't OWN one, just basing that on pictures.
As alternatives, you might try a simple black kilt with an orange Clemson shirt. Or, you can get a brighter orange tartan (something like Irn-Bru tartan) but it would have to come from Scotland and be a custom job (more $$$). Or, download Alan H's XKilt directions and make a kilt for yourself from bright orange fabric or even a Clemson pattern--hey, you probably could find a tailor to sew it up for you for a modest fee. I would bet Steve at Freedom Kilts, Rocky at USAKilts, or Matt Newsome at Scottish Tartan Museum would sew up a wonderful kilt if you provide the fabric they need.

    Good luck!

IIRC your colors are purple and orange: How about a USAK casual or semi-trad in Warrior tartan, with your regular orange shirts?

That's a good thought, too. Just so that you know, Clemson has its own tartan but I don't know its history. It'd be a custom weave job, but one day when you have some disposable cash, you could have Matt make a 4-yard box pleat. Better yet, if you can organize a group of people to order at once, the fabric can be woven double-width, cutting the cost of fabric in half! This is what was done recently with the Carolina district tartan; see this thread.

I forgot that I had this on line---The tie on the left here is the SWK wool fabric, the other is more of a tan. There seem to be some artifacts from how I scanned them, but this may give you an idea of the color.

You know what? I bought mine for exactly the same reasons- I'm a Denver Broncos fan, and their colors are orange, white and navy blue. The saffron is very close to orange- it works perfectly for my purposes, and looks great with a navy blue jersey and white socks. You can't go wrong with it- it's a great kilt.

Yeah, I have been thinking about the Warrior from USAK, b/c I mean the players wear purple pants sometimes, so it'd look good. And as for the Clemson Tartan, that thing is gorgeous, I had no idea that was real. One day when I have money I will most deff get a kilt made from the Clemson tartan. Where do you order custom tartan fabric?
