I think I'll have to miss this one. On duty at the aviation museum Saturday 21st June and attending Hawick Highland Games Sunday 22nd June. Perhaps some of you might want to stay at Ferintosh for a few days and take in Guid Nychburris on the Saturday and Hawick Highland Games on the Sunday.

One of these years we're gonna make this. We missed it by a week last year and aren't coming this year. Maybe next year then.
Have fun...and of course take pictures.

Just finished looking at last year's piccies and the official website which you linked to. Looks like a fun and interesting event. Hope the weather this year is better than that of last year.
Do lots of towns observe this day, or is it uique to your town? Lots of small towns here in the midwest US have town festivals, but obviously not with the same historical significance of yours. There are always parades and lots of good food and entertainment.
Looks like you have the perfect vantage point from the guest house.

Thanks for the info P1M.
There used to be a (very old) custom in the UK and the US called "Beating the Bounds" whereby the property owner would walk the boundary of his land each year to be sure that no one was encroaching on his land. At each of the property corners he would beat stones or sticks together to let the world know that this was his land. It was also a common practice to bring the neighboring land owner along, that way you each agreed where the boundary line is. Not many people other than us surveyors know about these traditions now, but they are still good practices.
