Well, it's a combination of ideas.
My personal belief is that the American Muzzleloader 'possible bag' was either an adaptation of, or was an original, sporran brought over from Scotland.

Since I hunt with a .50 Cal Hawken (original single trigger, not a set-trigger replica) rifle and also make things from leather...I figured that since I already made myself a possible bag, I could meld my passions to make this for paintball...lol.

It's primary purpose is to add to my "look" but also in that since I wear a Kilt, I need a place to store some things. As a secondary service, it protects my groin. Paintball tournement pants are padded and military BDUs are thick and absorb some impact. A Kilt, on the other hand, doesn't really absorb much unless you are in a kind of "squatting" position...that the apron billows and absorbs impact. After I emboss the Cross into the flap, I'll ModPodge it to make it stain resistant (from paintballs).

Like I said...as a utilitarian device, it'll be a great addition to my "druid" field-persona, without having spent $55 or higher on a real one that will get ruined.
