Alan has the right to be really proud of his manual.

He has helped a lot of people make their first kilt.

The Moderating Staff understands that this is a valuable resource and we have been considering options to set up this up with some of the other popular how to's (The F-H.C.A.G. and David Dalglish's jacket conversion threads come to mind) as tutorials or in a separate section for easy reference.

For the time being I will put this as a sticky thread in the DIY (and the F-H.C.A.G. 's as well) until we can come up with a better place

I just bought 5 yds of duck cloth. its in the washer now, should be ready in the morning, if I am. lol Its more fabric than I need but it wont go to waste. I would also like a copy of the excel program.

good luck with that. duck cloth is a tough material to work with.

Thank you so much for the manual. It is indeed, a work of art. It came at the perfect time for me. We have a young lad in our dance group who is an incredible fiddler, and has actually started playing for our dance group. He has been hired to play a gig for a group, but it is a formal event, and he needs to be kilted. The parents have a bunch of kids (all equally talented) and don't feel they can even afford to rent a kilt for the evening. The other problem it that he is 6 ft tall and about 24 inches around. His hips are probably even smaller. I can make him an X kilt, gift it to him for graduation, he can earn money playing the gig, the group will be richer for having heard this incredible fiddler, and all is well with the world. You never know the good you do when you do good. Again Alan, thank you.

Based on X-Kilt manuals, I've made simple Excel calculator, which helps with pleat and fabric calculations and is making some suggestions. I don't have possibility to post it somewhere on the Net, yet. If someone has this possibility and think it could be of some use, I can send it to him for further actions.

Oh, and by next weekend I will have a picture of my first X-Kilt.
I got some denim to make a couple kilts.
I made one tonight the same way I made my last two to try out a new way of making front pockets.
Starting this week I will be using the rest to follow Alan's instructions to make an X-Kilt.
I have it printed out sitting here on my desk ready to go.
