    I only own a semi-trad (which I love) but I'd still consider getting a casual in the future. I've seen them worn at formal events (just order it without the patch) and it didn't stand out among the sea of kilts.

    I have both a casual and semi traditional from Rocky. I haven't worn the semi traditional for more than 15 minutes. (I live on a farm, and don't want to damage it) The casual I wear all the time, it isn't as easily dressed up as the semi traditional though.

    If you already have a dressy kilt go for the casual. The velcro is nice, and seems to be holding up quite well, and like you said a belt will help if you are worried.
