    From "Scots Kith & Kin"
    page 45
    Ramage...................Perth 14thc. Stobo etc. 16th c.

    ==============================================

From "The Surnames of Scotland" by George F. Black

He does not mention the meaning of the name... He does mention the usual mention of the name in various situations around Scotland during the centuries.
Places like; Perth, Stobo in Peeblesshire, Curmannock, & Edinburgh. Mostly the name is mentioned in the town of Stobo.

That really is a nice looking tartan. Based on the Black Watch, I guess.

Heraldry in the United Kingdom belongs to individuals and not families.

Sealark is correct. While Aitken has a taartan of its own it has long been a sept of the House of Gordon. The name is a variant of Adam, and the first Gordon in Scotland was Sir Adam de Gordon in 1057.

    Cousin!
Convener, Georgia Chapter, House of Gordon (Boss H.O.G.)

Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.

I KNEW I had seen an Aitken tartan somewhere on the web, but couldn't remember where. Love the Tartan, by the way. I could wear it to honor my old Parish Priest in Adelaide Sth Australia, Monsignor Robert Aitken.
(I don't need much of an excuse to wear a Tartan).
Now if Stillwater or Frugal Corner could only get it in stock....

Hello and a warm from Boston, Massachusetts.

Enjoy the Aitken Tartan, also look at the Gordon Tartans. Turpin is right, that you are cousins. Aitken has always been of the House of Gordon throughout Scot history.

RAM(M)AGE Derived from the Latin ramus, meaning branch. The Middle English/Lallans adjective ramage (Latin via Norman-French) was used in hawking terminology to mean 'living in the branches' - i.e. wild or unpredictable.

Aitken may be associated with Clan Aitcheson or (like me) the House of Gordon.

As for Rammage, I found this. I believe they're with Clan Moffat
