    Barrel pleats

    A simple question :

Is a barrel pleat the same as a rolled (military box) pleat ?

    Thank you.

On this web-site the reference would indicate yes - But I have never heard the term.....

I hope Matt joins in and lets us know.

A barrel pleat and a military style box pleat are not the same, though I believe that barrel/"rolled"/piped pleats are one in the same.

It's not a mystery... just a different pleating style!

The (rolled, barrel, caned, or pencil) pleat is all the same thing, and it is likely not pressed in order to maintain a rounded appearance. Pressing it would likely make it lose its unique showing.

The mlitary box pleat is designed to be pressed, although it does not take a truly crisp edge.
