I think the cantle would have needed to be a bit wider on each side there at the bottom in order that the bosses look balanced on the cantle. Not an unreasonable nor un-attrractive option, however.

I do think that the variation in both size and design of the bosses adds a visual interest that isn't there with the three large and identical ones, however. That would be (was) my first impulse.

Except you're right, those bosses are 2 big for the sides.
But if you you used smaller bosses with the same design....
