I think this is worth repeating. I think there's a market for both the expensive tanks and the less-expensive acrylic kilts. To each his own, but I can tell you that Jerry's not taking my money out of anyone else's pocket, because even when I have $800 for a kilt, I'd have a hard time spending it. That's two car payments, or a house payment, etc. But that's just me. If anyone wants to spend that kind of money, that's great, but it's not for everyone.

On the *tropical* kilt, the pleats are about 3/4". not much swing...
I know the pleats on the SWK is about 3" but the acrylic fabric is bit scary...
How is the feel different from wool ??? Or do we feel it at all ???
I know some of you guys own a SWK, how does it differ from a tank???
Thanks
I own three kilts - one is a wool made-in Scotland "Ferguson" bought from The Scottish Company in Toronto. I think it's machine sewn and it probably doesn't qualify as a 'tank' but it's pretty good quality. The second one is an SWK wool heavyweight "Shadow Tartan" and the third is an SWK Economy "Black Watch". The quality of the three is broadly reflective of their respective prices. Do they have different feel? Oh yeah. The Ferguson has the nicest hand, the Shadow Tartan is a bit coarser and heavier and the acrylic is much softer than the others. I really like all three of them.
Would I wear the SWK's to a formal event? I'd wear the Shadow Tartan but probably not the Black Watch, more so because it is fairly similar in colour to the Ferguson than because it's not "good enough".
I wear suits to work. My favourite suits are the ones that fit the best and look the best, not necessarily the ones that cost the most. My most expensive suit is a Hugo Boss. It's probably nicer than the average suit out there and it would be appropriate attire at most functions, but you'd be right in saying that a bespoke, custom tailored suit from a fine tailor would be better fitting. I choose to wear the Boss and (much) lesser suits because, well, that's what I choose to do. Can I afford bespoke? Yes I can. But I find that I'm able to look good in suits right off the rack.
It certainly helps that I'm built like a clotheshanger...
Cheers,
Rob

That's exactly how I feel. If I chose to only buy tanks, I'd wear pants all the time, because I can't afford a tank. Even when I save, the money ends up getting spent elswhere. Car maintenance, vet bills etc.
It's because of vendors like Jerry that I own kilts (although, I don't own an SWK...yet). Without these vendors that offer affordable, off-the-peg products, there are many of us who would not be kilted.
I do plan on spending my tax rebate check on a Newsome. I'm really looking forward to finally owning a hand tailored kilt... But until then, I will wear my Pakistani acrylic, my Gold Bros. (I own TWO, and that's fine by me), and my secondhand (or third? fourth? who knows) military surplus kilt... and I will wear them with PRIDE.
