There is no reason why you can't wear a belt if you so wish, but you will find that your waistcoat will not hang well. Some will say that if you are not wearing a waistcoat then you should wear a belt and that's fine, provided you are not wearing a waistcoat. In my humble opinion, though, a waistcoat should always be worn with a PC.

i've just bought a complete PC outfit, the belt wasn't included.
i mentioned about the belt, the guy said it'll get scratched from the sporran & the belt buckle will scratch the sporran, the choice is yours if you want one (at an extra cost)

Absolutely no belt with a PC. It will show & it will look awful, as it does with any waistcoat. You're kidding yourself to think otherwise.
And as Jock Scot wrote, a waistcoat should always accompany a PC.
Then again, no one is obligated to abide by a thing I say.
Slainte yall,

I'll go along with the comments so far and say that I wouldn't ever wear a belt with a waistcoat.
I'll be different when I say that I often wear the PC without the waistcoat (but then, I always wore a tux w/o waistcoat), but when I do I'll always wear a belt.

My first experience wearing a kilt was a PC rental for a friends wedding. The rental came with a belt and shiny buckle as is customary these days which I wore with the vest and jacket. When I look at he pictures from the wedding and compare them with pictures from later events where I did not wear the belt, I feel the belted pictures look a bit odd. Half the buckle sticks our from below the vest and the vest bulges. In the pictures without the belt the vest hangs nicely over the kilt. It seems to me to be a much cleaner, sharper look.

I think that if you're going to wear your waistcoat with the jacket, then don't wear the belt. If you see yourself wearing the jacket without the waistcoat, then you could get the belt.
Personally, I wear my PC with waistcoat and no belt. I do on occasion wear a small, easily concealed belt just to keep my kilt from moving around too much (my good kilt has apparently grown a little bit).

I think Freelancers photos illustrate the point nicely. No belt with a waistcoat for me.
Best regards,

To me wearing a belt with a fancy waist plate that shows under the vest makes the vest look too small. I would wear a vest waistcoat or belt, not both together.
