To me wearing a belt with a fancy waist plate that shows under the vest makes the vest look too small. I would wear a vest waistcoat or belt, not both together.

Me personally, I have no choice. I wear my sporran with hangers, instead of a chain belt, so if I don't wear a belt, I don't wear a sporran. And that is itself not an option.

I would absoultely not wear a belt while wearing a waistcoat. And, as everyone's said, a waistcoat should ALWAYS acompany the PC. I wore a PC for my wedding (a rental) with not belt. I own an Argyll and waistcoat set these days, and NEVER wear a belt with the waistcoat. Aside from tradition, a belt just doesn't look at all right with a waistcoat, as well discussed here already.

But you DO have the option to wear the sporran on a sporran strap/belt (chain or otherwise) rather than the "hangers." Maybe not a preference, but certainly an option.
