    I knew Iommi wouldn't be gaelic, see my post. but Hammett was supposedly Irish....

    Plus, the thread says De-anglicisation not "what's this in gaelic"....

    Okay, just for a laugh, here it goes:

    My 'gaelicisation' of Iommi = Aigheomaí

    Yes, this thread is about the "De-Anglicisation" (a term coined by Dr. Douglas Hyde) of Gaelic surnames which have been Anglicised (i.e., all of them). However, I would wager that two-thirds of the names posted have had no basis in the Gaelic language, let alone any other Celtic language! Ah, well, still good fun...

    My surname is Middleton my ggggrand father was from Glasgow, and my mothers maiden name was Gourley they were from Fife. Any translation with these?
