Er,what restrictions?There is nothing better(in the stick world) than spotting a good stick growing and cutting,seasoning and using it.The hazel thumb stick is the most common countryman's stick over here followed by blackthorn.

I have proof that you are correct. A fellow called Gregor from Taynuilt is a frequent visitor to the bar at the Brander Lodge where I stayed last July. Not knowing me, but knowing I was going to do one Munro (Ben Cruachan), Gregor made a quicky hazelwood walker for me. The nice fellow got a dram from me in thanks.
Although it passed the rule of thumb, I beat no wife with it.
