    Hi Derek

You know one thing I found hard to grasp was the sense of space and distance across Britain. Here in Idaho it takes ages to get from anywhere to anywhere - especially with the lack of trains and buses. Next year will be better.

Wonderful pictures! Real professional quality. I love that Gothic architecture and the fan vaulting is spectacular. Thanks!

Phil, further to my admiration of your work, I have a question: How did you manage to get such wonderful interior shots in some of those places? I am sure that last time I was in Holyrood Palace, for example, photography inside the building was not permitted, and similarly in St. Giles Cathedral. I cannot remember what the situation is at the Castle, but in all my visits there I have never managed interior shots - and I do know how to!! Perhaps I should not be asking you in public!!!

    Take care,
    Ham.

Hamish you can buy a photography permit in St Giles for £1.

Most places are fine in the Castle except where there are signs indicating otherwise such as the Honours of Scotland or the National War Memorial Chapel.

It's been a while since I was last inside Holyroodhouse but I seem to recall photography is not permitted inside,

Correct - no photography allowed inside Holyroodhouse although I would have LOVED to be able to work there - the interiors are all from the castle and St. Giles where a photo pass is available for £1.

By using a higher ISO, a stabilized lens, and finding paces to brace the camera body I was able to work in some very low light environments. Of course there were many frames that were left on the "cutting room floor" if you know what I mean

As I tell my students - Professionals shoot loads of photos and only show their very best work. Clever huh?

I too must agree with Hamish's post .... you were in Bath and that is only a little over 50mins from where we live in Wales. It would have been great to have met up

    Phil,

With this gorgeous set of pictures you certainly proved how you earned your title!
