Nice "weathered" brown sporran?
I'm having a hard time finding a sporran I like. I wanted something that's got a "weathered" look to it in darkish brown. Even if it's not weathered, I still can't find one I like. All the browns I see are awkward looking, and I don't want a black one at the moment.
I've checked Craigie but can't afford those. I'm looking for something fairly inexpensive. Am I just going to have to splurge on a good one?
Thanks.

You get what you pay for. If you are looking for a good leather sporran I would say a Freelander if you like the Rob Roy Style and if you want the other type I would say look at Leather Sporrans. You may have to spend a bit more however you will get a sporran that will last you a lifetime.

I have two suggestons. One is check out http://www.freelandersporrans.com/cms/index.php and our own Turpin at http://www.thorfinnsporrans.com/
Both of these companies can make you a pouch type sporran out of your choice of leather at a very reasonable price.

The What Price Glory reproduction sporran is IMHO a very attractive deep cordovan, well-made, and a raving bargain at US$25. See http://onlinemilitaria.net/shopdispl...2&cat=SPORRANS

I don't know what you would consider cheap, but here are couple of what I would consider inexpensive (under $100.00) choices:

I too believe you an go too cheap.
Cheers!

One of my favorite sporrans I wear with my great kilt. It's dark elk hide and opens out into a large pouch. I found it on eBay a few years ago after a search for "period pouch". It was new and I paid only $30 for it.

Look in the back of So You're Going to Wear the Kilt, and the hop on down to the local Tandy store or Hobby lobby and buy some inexpensive leather.
Anyone can make a perfectly serviceable sporran although it won't look like Sporrano's or Turpin's or L&M's. But since it sounds like you're looking for something fairly casual or even rustic, it won't matter. It's not hard to do the basic cutting and lacing, and you'll be able to make it look however you want it to look.
Good luck. And, BTW, I'd like to see that WPG sporran myself!

Have you seen the brown sporran SWK offers? Basic, but great for the price.

Yeah I've been looking at it - I just wanted to see other options. I'm not a huge fan of the snap enclosure.
