If it's an option, wear it work. Put it on when you get there, take it off before you leave. That's what I'd do anyway - forget waitin. She can't wear her dress everywhere but there aren't any laws (that I know of,) saying you can't go about kilted.
I don't believe there are any laws stating she couldn't wear her wedding dress on a daily basis either.
I'm going to be in a similar position myself. The different bits and pieces I've ordered for my outfit are starting to arrive (I should get my kilt next week!) - so I have the traditional jones to get it all together but once I get to the US it has to be kept under lock and key as my fiancé will try and spoil her surprise.
Just think about how good you are going to look and feel on the day, that's getting me through it.
On the subject of the basting stitches I was planning on leaving these in until the night before as I wanted to keep the pleats in as good condition as possible.
