gaiters and kilts do not mix
Yep, gaiters and kilts do not mix good choice on puffy pants though. Great pictures, reminds me of the time in Alaska.

Ahhh, the land of beautiful women and hot springs...no clue why I didn't move there years ago and acquire a few of both.

It's _cold_ here!
So what were you studying about those rocks in particular?
We're studying structures that we think form very shortly after eruption in volcanic rocks that form by eruption under glaciers. Because Iceland was completely covered in ice during the last ice age, there are lots of subglacial volcanic rocks that are now exposed. People have studied these kinds of structures (the fins in the first photo) in sandstones in the US desert southwest and in a few places in subaerial volcanic tuffs in the American West, but there's been essentially no work done on them in subglacial volcanics. So, we're at the stage of sorting out the puzzle.
And one more fab Dave photo that he took last night.

These are fabulous photos! This last one looks lke it should have some inspirational say under it. I have a friend who vacations in Iceland every year and recommends it highly. She says it's sort of like living on Mt Washington.

Still in my duffle bag. I haven't sewed a stitch on it since I got here....
I'm impressed. You even take kilt work with you on exotic trips? You are obsess. . . . . er, a dedicated kiltmaker.

Ok Barb, now we know your secret. That is how you get all of those kilts made to those fine tolerances..... You find them under the rainbows in Iceland!
I wonder what the labor laws are for leprechauns working on Scottish kilts?
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Barb - David's last shot is fantastic. Talk about capturing a mood in an image - it's got it all.
