The weather tonight,as I type,is warmish(sweater being worn),very windy, low cloud and very ,very wet!Oh thank goodness the midgies are being blown into the north sea!Let me know when you are coming and I can give you, well try, a weather forecast.
I don't know if you know the west coast of Scotland, but I am never far from a sweater, waterproof coat, and trousers if the midgies are about.I kid you not.

What a trip! And beautiful photo's to document it.
Hamish, re: Freedom of the City for military units. Part of the history of this ceremony is that no unit is usually allowed within a town or city "armed" and still be considered friendly.
When granted Freedom of the City the city recognizes the military unit as a friendly unit and then allows them to march armed through the city. The usual ceremony has the unit arrive on parade with rifles only, but after being granted Freedom of the City the unit is allowed to "fix bayonets" to their rifles (thus now being considered "armed") and continue their parade.
