Am I shaped weird?

So I've been reading a lot around here and have come to the consensus that 24" seems to be about the average drop.

Well, I made my own X-kilt last weekend. I originally wanted to make it 22" because I wanted it to ride the top of my knee cap. Then I started thinking, "maybe I'm measuring wrong," and ended up hemming it to 23". Well, low and behold, it's right at the middle of my knee. I'm wearing it just slightly above my navel.

I'm 6' tall.

Am I weird?

i know a guy who has same thing as you. he's tall but when i measured to get him a kilt he had a 22 drop and he's 6 ft also.

Was he odd looking to you? I'm kind of self-conscience thinking about how I may not be proportionate. I always thought I was a fairly proportionate fellow.

The great thing about the kilt is that there is no weird shape. Any one of us, regardless of girth, expansion, shortness of knees or even Grant can wear it!

No...not weird. Look at the incredible range of body shapes and proportions. On my mom's father's side, for example, they have very long bodies, rather average length legs (though the femur seems a bit short) and absolutely no butts. There are no objectively "normal" proportions...the only place that I've ever seen perfect human proportions described is in courses on figure drawing and there they are trying to capture some kind of "ideal" human form or "heroic" human form.

It's funny when you think about it: I'm sure that you know people who might be the same height and the same weight but one might look like they're in good shape while the other might look sort of out of trim...it's all just a matter of distribution, eh?

How 24 inches became the sort of standard length for off-the-rack kilts, I don't know...but it does seem to work out two-thirds of the time. A lot of posts have been made by members who have purchased off-the-rack kilts and are seeking advice on how to shorten them...just do a search on "hemming" and you'll see. Sometimes, though, you do have to hike it up on your body a bit more, though, and find a comfortable spot that it fits at. I think that I've seen the comment made a few times that most people sort of instinctively want to wear the kilt too low on their waists and a little finnagle-ing and adjusting upward can make all of the difference.

Just slightly below average (23 vs. 24)!

We are all different shapes and sizes. Some can buy pants and jackets "off the rack" while others need to go to a tailor.

The same holds true with Kilts!

Well thanks for the re-assurance.

My next x-kilt will be 22" however. I used to play basketball and having shorts below or even on the knees gets uncomfortable, so now it's kind of a quirk of mine.

I guess that's the point of a custom-made kilt (even if you custom make it yourself). It's made to fit YOUR body.
