    Why 75"?

With the braiding, what does that produce for an overall length?

I've seen ads for garter ties being 36" length for 'regular' calves (whatever that is anyway) and 48" for big calves.

I measured mine and tried wrapping the measuring tape around as if it was a tie and 36" wouldn't even tough the ends, 48" did the trick nicely.

So judging by the OP calf photo, I would venture about the same length of finished tie?

When you braid, you loose a significant amount from your original length.

I realize that but I was wondering if there any formula.

IE - If I wanted a X" as a final length, I should start with X - plus or times"

They loose some of their length when finished plus some gets cut off as shown. When I made the test garter, I wanted to start with more than enough yarn in each strand so that I had some to work with. The test garter came out so well with about 4-5" inches being trimmed off. The overall length on mine are 47.5".
My calves are 17" each and I make 2 revolutions around my calve with the garter. What's great, is these are nice and long and are good with cahdah.. which I have also made.

The only part of a kilt outfit I haven't made (DIY) is a kilt belt or knitted hose.

THANKS GUYS, FOR THE NICE COMMENTS!

Thanks for the length clarification. Appears trial and error often is best method.

I am not positive but think I like the unfrayed look better.

Braiding, who'd a thought it. Here I was trying to convince myself to do more finger weaving. I'll have to give the braiding a shot. They look good.

I was off by 1/2" inch, impressive laser eye forum picture tape measure-er.
