We have a cabin on the east border of the Rocky Mnt. Natnl. Park. Meeker Lodge, log cabin for a week. We stayed here 2 yrs. ago and it was a grand time.
Splash that is a dirk I just stuffed in the belt. I don't think it was really worn there...?

For hiking, I'd suggest using liberal amounts of BodyGlide. The stuff works great!

BodyGlide is an anti-chafing compound. It comes in sticks (like deodorant), which you apply to areas susceptible to chafing (i.e. middle of thighs if they rub at all when walking, certain front-and-center areas that are very sensitive and don't like chafing at all). Works wonders. Works great for biking too. It's not greasy - it's really dry, almost like wax.
Note - BodyGlide comes in anti-chafing (yes!) and muscle recovery (like Ben-Gay, I suppose) formulas (no!). Make sure you get the right one. You can buy it at REI and at running and biking stores. Online too, I would think.

Remember that you are closer to the sun and can get burned a lot. If your hair is even thinking of going thin, wear headgear. Enjoy and I do hike in Kilts and just live it.
Yes every thing people said about any sort of protection is a must. Also HYDRATE!!!

I'd second Gman's notion of wearing a hat for sun protection. I'm also hiking in kilts all the time.

McNulty, that's a fine looking hound you have there! I'm packing the gear for a kilted walk about. My wife thinks I'm "funny", kids think I'm embarassing, I'm looking foreward to the experience!

Drink alot of water, and when you think you have had enough, drink more. Not only because it is dryer here, but hydration helps combat high altitude sickness. Another thing to throw in your sporran; a roll of plain old rollaids, not any fancy one. There is something in Rollaids that helps combat altitude sickness as well.
