Bouncers. I've found that I either love 'em or hate 'em. And I'm glad you avoided Bar Chicago. I've been there once. Count it, once.

    Sir or Ma'am,

It has come to my attention that last evening, a kilt-wearing associate of mine was barred entry to your establishment. The "gentleman" at the door stated that under other circumstances he would be permitted entry but there was a "dress code" in effect at that time.

When questioned, the attendant could not explain what the dress code was but the kilt did not fall within it.

The kilt wearer was most likely dressed far better than the majority of your customers, if your website photos are any indication.

Here was a customer with 10 guests who were looking to enjoy the holiday.

Your employee's actions not only cost you sales on this evening but I would venture to say that the kilted gentleman will not be returning and neither will his friends.

If you wish to enlighten yourself and your staff, please visit www.xmarksthescot.com. You will be surprised at how many gentlemen wear the kilt and are proud to do so.

In closing, I will tell you that I am located in western Canada and will probably never visit your establishment. However, through the power of the internet, I have become aware of this incident and I hope you give it the attention it deserves.

    Thank you for your time,

    Mike Cawthra
    Gentleman of Substance

    Subject: Boy, big mistake.

Your bouncer prevented a guy and ten drinking friends from entering your place to spend their money? Guess you already have plenty of money and didn't need those folks cash - they went next door for the same booze anyway...but dang...

There is a kilt fashion boom in progress right now. Chicago is a VERY kilt friendly town.

Why would you wanna anger kilt wearing Chicago area men and kilt wearing Chicago visitors?

    Bad call.

Yup, I've been known to visit Chicago too.

Mikey, that is brilliant! That should stir a little debate before this evenings shift!
You know, if I may say something on a personal level, there are doormen I like and dislike, as well. But when I'm working, it is my job to encourage and foster an inclusive atmosphere. We cater to a certain musical taste, punk rock, so our regular customers tend to be of that ilk. It is rather obvious some folks wouldn't enjoy hanging out for long, and they don't. But I have only denied entry to people who are banned from the club for violating the rules of decent society or the laws of the land. I have a few times denied someone because they were in no condition to be served. These folks I have tried to assist get a ride, cab, or help from a friend. Yeah, there are gorillas out there, standing by the door, imagining themselves the gatekeepers of coolness, somehow. They do their employer a serious dis-service.

    "Good afternoon,

It has come to my attention that last evening, a friend of mine (and his party of 10), who like myself and thousands more, wears a kilt, was denied entry to your locale. The "guard/bouncer" at the door told my friend that normally he would have let him in, but last night there was some sort of dress code. A dress code that this 'guard/bouncer' was not able to explain or detail, but judging by the description and the photos available on your website, my friend and his party were dressed better than the supposed 'dress code' in effect.

I'm sure the actions of your employee will NOT go unnoticed, what with the world now being a global village, the internet and all that modern society stuff that spreads news faster than wildfire.

Worthy of note as well, that thousands of men in your area wear a kilt, which in turn translate into tens of thousands of family/friends that are all potential customers. You discriminate against one…you know the rest.

I would recommend you familiarize yourself with the kilt, kilted men, Scotland and its contributions to US Independence before having employees banning people at whim for wearing a good looking kilt.

Thank you for your time, and do visit www.xmarksthescot.com"

After having a close brush with a nightclub last week it sounds like you owe the bouncer a drink for giving you reason not to go!

More seriously though it's such a shame that he was so ill informed.

damn, I am so glad I don't go to night clubs anyways. This kind of fiasco would just piss me off. However I have been contemplating going to one. I just have to convince one of my potential rides to drive me and then to pick me up again as I do not have a car. And of course if I went to a night club I would definitely be wearing a kilt as it is my best outfit :P
