I may try it with my Graham of Manteith kilt as Matt has suggested, and Jamie, now?
I thought I always dressed at least as well, if not nicer

Glen, I think the hose look fine. I think we'd have more in agreement if the pix were brighter. I'm going to continue to think about the tartan flashes: perhaps the suggestion for red ones is a good idea.
Altogether, you're gonna look like a million bucks---make that hard-currency bucks, not the ones we're using now.
For my part, I've gotten hold of some marled yarn & I'm going to try some diced hose in two shades of blue. Let's see whether I can pull that off with the Ezdell USA Kilt.

Glen,
My only consolation is that I my sartorial splendor still outshines Grant's like the blazing sun before a dim candle, and my neatly trimmed beard has proven more than a match for Grant's golden mane of curly locks.
It is a small comfort to be sure, but it is comfort nonetheless.
Cheers

Who invented the canard of diced hose having to "match" the kilt? I think the hose look splendid in the photos, no problem whatsoever.
FWIW, officers of the RHR ( Black Watch ) did not wear red and white diced hose; rather they wore red and black .

It's funny how we're debating whether or not the red/white diced hose "go" with the Black Watch tartan , or any other. That was never a consideration. The government adopted that pattern of hose for use by the Highland regiments back in the 18th C. because they could purchase acres of the simple-sett fabric for dirt cheap!
Anyways, Glen, I think they look fine with that or any other "darkish" kilt....

During the 18th century officers and other ranks of the RHR wore red and white diced hose If I remember correctly, the red and black diced hose (worn by all ranks -- see Nevill's "The Scottish Regiments" by Europa Publishing) is a 19th century adoption.

Well said, Brian!
The whole point of diced hose is not to match.

As always, Glen, you wear your ensembles well and with confidence but, for me (and this is just me) the diced hose are too militaristic - fine on you, but I could not wear them.
Deep in my collection of archived accessories, is a pair of green/white diced hose that I used to wear back in the 1960s for dance displays and demonstrations before I had my first pair of tartan hose - I also wore a green montrose doublet at that time, so there was some co-ordination going on! I would not wear them now though.
Take care,
Ham.
