Here it depends on the neighborhood. I wear mine in a minority neighborhood. The people from India recognize the kilt, as blacks often do. Hispanics, however, usually have no idea what it is, so tend to comment more.
But I'm usually surprised if anybody makes a comment while I'm in midtown.
San Francisco probably has an advantage since it seems that the Northwest is more open to daily kiltwear than here in the more traditional Northeast. Maybe due to the Utilikilt's popularity?
