One thing that I often don't think about is that wearing the kilt is very obvious to others. I am comfortable wearing the kilt and neither my wife nor I see it as an unusual thing anymore, but when you wear the kilt you are standing out in the crowd, whether you know it or not. I think that's why comments like those previously mentioned catch me off guard - I'm not thinking that any thing is unusual, and I guess I assume that no one else is either. Obviously this is wrong - if you wear the kilt, you will be noticed by many. I think that people wear Dockers and jeans so that they will blend in - a very different situation.

The power of the kilt is noticed by many people. A few weeks ago my husband and I renewed our wedding vows (now that the marriage itself will be recognized by the state of california). It was part of a group service for several members of the church who were "upgrading" their domestic partnerships to marriage, and was done during the church service. My husband and I are both in the choir and had to be dressed for that, but my best man was able to attend the service, and in honor of us, wore the kilt that I have built for him for our original wedding. He got several compliments from the church members, but his trip to the church was the best story.

He had to drop his son off at his mothers house (for some grandparent/grandchild bonding time) on his way to our church service. He couldn't get a great parking place, and ended up parking about a block from his folks house. After he dropped his son off, a woman (of advanced years) stopped her car, and called him over to her. Jeremy wondered what was up. She said "Young man, I want to tell you how nice you look and how wonderful to see someone dressed so respectfully in a kilt. You have made my day."

I was so jealous that he was in a kilt and i wasn't!

Those comments are fab, they do lift the spirits, but I've also noticed that the more comfortable you are in the kilt, sometimes the less other people notice. I've had people do a double take once it dawns on them that I'm not wearing pants after speaking with me at some length or transacting some sort of business.

Hey! Congrats! I think it's great that Cali finally passed that law. Now, if we could only convince Colorado voters that other people's bedrooms are not our business...

I echo all the sentiments here. Congratulations! Now you just have to get your choir kilted. Coemgen is right...folks that you'd never have otherwise met seem just to come out of the woodwork to give compliments when you are wearing the kilt.

Lets keep this one on topic folks. Some issues that shouldn't be political actually are so none of that. As David would say..."Just Behave!".

I only have modern kilts. On both days, I happened to be wearing my caramel UK workman's kilt. This one seems to encourage more comments than my other two kilts (both UK).
