Talking Kilts and Rock/Punk Shows - Some Advice Fellas

I have had the unfortunate experience to come into way too close contact with guys that wear their kilts properly and insisted on crowdsurfing. Not a good idea fellas. (and that's as close as I'm going to come to saying what you know what I mean.)

    Also:
-Make sure your kilt and sporran and all are well secure too. People try to rip them off of you. A true test of the seams and buckles.

-Don't buy your kilts at Hot Topic. The point of having a kilt is having your own identity, not one you got at the mall

-Steel-toed boots DO look awesome with kilts

-With all this, make sure you wear one. You'll get all sorts of compliments from all sources and being in the pit sure is a lot cooler with a little air flow underneath

Anyone else have the pleasure of sporting at a rock show?

Yea back in march myself Ayin Macfye and Retro Red all went to the Drop kick Murphys show in Tempe Arizona. All three of us were kilted, lots of compliments, couple of can I take a picture with you and one "The Question" but she wasn't brave enough to find out. No crowd surfing but Ayin did join in the mosh pit once or twice. Great fun.

AZScot: Was that no crowd surfing by you guys or none by kilt-clad people? Just curious if it's a trait of the Detroit guys.

That's a sweet kilt a nice mixture of all the good ol' traditional stuff and the modern. I'm a bit up in age for the rock shows but sure can see how fun it would be.

    Cheers,

I saw one of those when I was walking by the store around St. Patrick's day and thought it was just a seasonal goof/novelty item. I didn't realize they actually had it as part of their normal product lineup. I'd love to see if my local store carries them (besides during St.Patty's season) to check them out (not sure if I'd actually wear it though...)

    Thumbs up

I sport the kilt at rock and roll gigs and roller derby bouts all the time, all "the kids" think it's pretty cool. It lets me stand out for something besides being the oldest guy there!

Here's my pointers for kilted concert attire:
    -Wear boots and band tees
    -Wear a cool belt buckle
-A sporran with some stud work is always good
-Studded belts look good with kilts
-Band buttons (the 1/2 inch variety) work for kilt pins
-Nylon "bomber" jackets and jean jackets work if you need to stay warm
-DO NOT go regimental if you plan to mosh or crowd surf

Here's a couple of pics for reference:

good luck then. I'm a 37 year old punk and have been to alot of the hardest shows in pants. If you have been to many shows, think of when girls go on top and what happens.
