Hey, I'm only in this for the money. Of course Jamie has never paid me my 35 cents salary so I guess in the long run I'm kinda stupid.
I thought I would explain to those who are new or those who have forgotten how this system works.
After this poll is over and everyone has expressed their desire, the option with the most votes will be selected for this years run of fabric.
I will then begin the process of taking actual orders. I will start a thread that will contain the ordering information. Each member who wishes to order fabric will send an e-mail to me containing the following;
Your X Marks screen name
Your Real name
Your shipping address which must include state, country and zip or postal code.
The address where you wish your fabric to be sent if different than your home address. (Fabric can be shipped directly to the kiltmaker of your choice.)
Your phone no.
The amount of fabric you wish to order.
The final charge for your fabric will depend on a couple of factors.
Shipping costs to your address.
Extra fees charged by the weaver. For example if we decide to use Marton Mills there may be a special order fee or one time set-up fee.
Changes in Currency conversions at the time of the order.
Here is the formula I will use to calculate your cost.
1) The weaver will tell me how much they are charging per yard of fabric. This may be in British Pounds so I will convert to Canadian Dollars.
2) When the fabric arrives at my shop I will know the total amount of shipping and duty charged on it. I divide this by the total yardage that arrived and add it to the per-yard cost.
3) I then multiply the by-the-yard charge by the amount of fabric you each order.
4) I then need to calculate the shipping cost according to the shipping address you give me.
5) I then add a 6% PayPal fee which is what they charge me for each transaction.
6) I take your total amount and add a 10% handling fee for my labor and time.
The total that I arrive at will be the cost to you.
I will then generate a PayPal invoice for each member who ordered fabric.
(yes, you will have the option of calling me directly with your credit card number or sending me a check via snail mail but this may delay the process for the others.)
When I have received all your payments and I am insured that I will not be out of pocket I will call the weaver and order the fabric.
This is the same way I did the Clan Crest Badges and the previous years runs of fabric.
As long as the system is totally transparent, gives everyone equal access to the same fabric, and the cost per yard is exactly the same for everyone I think this is the fairest way of handling this years run of fabric.
Next year we will do this again and if you all vote for a different weight or composition of fabric that is what we will then order. This is why some people have 13 oz. wool X Marks Kilts and some have 16oz. kilts.

Dumb question: Do we have to order X Marks tartan only when the run comes? Or can we order it from another vendor when the tartan isn't being produced? I know Freedom kilts has it but...I dunno, I think I know the answer, but I just wanna be sure.

Matt Newsome had a custom variant based on his original design for the XMTS tartan woven for an X Marker. The last three official runs have been the same as the background you see here. Other than that all the XMTS tartan kilts out there are the result from one of these runs. There was a problem with the third run by Fraiser and Kirkbright that required a re-weaving. The damaged remanants of the first try of that run were sold in Fraiser and Kirkbrights seconds (this favric fell into the hands of several X Markers).
If a kiltmaker decides to stock up on fabric from this run that is their business. As Steve has indicated, we will be doing this in again in a year or so.
I do not believe the tartan is trademarked (though it is registered with the STA), but any true X Marker would want to get permission from the owner of the site or the designer of tartan to have it woven.
Cheers
Jamie

Sharpdressedscot,
No!!! I do not have a stock of X Marks Tartan. Nor do I carry it to make kilts at some later date from. The only fabric I have is what members of this forum have purchased during one of the runs and asked me to make them a kilt from.
I also have my own FK in X Marks and some remnants left over from some of the kilts I have made for members but I DO NOT HAVE A STASH OF X MARKS TARTAN!
I am not the official or unofficial kiltmaker to X Marks. No one is. I do this as a side thing for the forum and it is not connected in any way with Freedom Kilts.

Don't thank ME... I'll only be doing my "normal job with customer supplied cloth". Steve and the XMarks staffers are the ones who deserve credit for making this happen (mostly Steve).
