Anyone have a Burnetts & Struth casual?
Burnetts & Struth is advertising a sale on their casual kilts. They have tartans in both 13 and 16 oz wool, but in communication say that they generally use only 2 meters double width (i.e., about 4 meters single width) on most of them, and that they must have knife pleats rather than box pleats.
Does anyone have one of these---or other's---16 oz wool kilt with knife pleats yet only about 4 meters of material? Is this satisfactory? I am guessing it would hang more like a schoolgirls' skirt than a kilt.

I don't own one but I've tried them on before and they're quite nice and good value.

Their casual kilts are made by the same folks we use. Very good quality for casual kilts. I used to own one in 13 oz and was very happy with it. I think 16 oz does even better. Just avoid the 10 oz, as the fabric really doesn't have the body for a four yard kilt.
Here is a pic of the one I use to own:

Matt I'm not so sure about that, they have kiltmakers on-site now, I've been up there and seen them working on different projects.

I purchased one of their sale casuals not too long ago, a Malcom Modern.

For the money it's a great purchase. Obviously the pleats are less deep and less in number than with an 8 yarder, but it's a fine kilt nonetheless.

I have a Burnett's & Struth casual in Strome (16 oz.) and I am very happy with it. It is machine-sewn, as one should expect at the price, and it is very well done. The only other all-wool kilt I have is a What Price Glory Gordon Highlander reproduction. Comparing the two, the WPG has heavier material and the B&S has much higher quality material and workmanship.
I strongly recommend the B&S.
Edit 20080717 (I finally learned how to post a photo!):
Here's Frank McGrath's photo of the rabble at The Royal Mile in Wheaton last July 5th. I'm the Santa-Claus-configured fellow on the extreme right. My kilt is my B&S ancient Farquarson.

I have one of these as well. I quite like it, and would give it my recommendation at the price.

I have one in 16 oz. Lochcarron, and it is excellent value at the sale price. It's a substantial kilt and it hangs well. I think you can see on Chrissss's kilt (Chris, correct me if I'm wrong), and mine is the same, that the front apron has no taper; that's my only reservation. I really like mine and get a lot of use out of it.

True...but I thought that might be because I have no taper (40" waist, 41" hip).
