According to the STA's International Tartan Index (ITI), all of the tartans named for branches of service plus the Confederate Rose tartan were designed in the late 1990s. One tartan, the "Confederate" tartan, comes from the lining of an greatcoat cape worn by a soldier in the 23rd North Carolina.
