    Simple answers
    1. Hose up, wear the flashes, down, don't
    2. Hose up with flashes, have teh Sgain Dubh IF you so desire
    3. TYPICALLY, sporran with traditional kilts, not with UK type
    4. wide belt (around 2.25 + inches) is not required with sporran

    Complex answers.....not going there.

For the most part I agree. However, I like wearing my plain black daywear sporran with my Amerikilt. I think it looke better than the cloth one the AK came with.

    1) Garters and flashes are USUALLyY worn for more dressy occasions but they can be worn casually. The only rule is no flashes with hose scrunched down.

    2) It kind of depends on the sgian. If it has a carved or horn handle, I would save it for dress but if you have a utility sgian (Cold Steel Braveheart) and you think you may need it, wear it. Again, only with the hose pulled up.

    3) If you want to carry things and you don't own a Freedom Kilt with the exclusive hidden slash pockets, wear a sporran.

    4) I always wear a wide belt, 2 1/2" dress model, 3" for casual. I only use a sporran belt for dress, casual attire I prefer sporran hangers.

Be advised, this is just one old man's opinion.

    Jdot84,

I think you look fine for most casual situations. That is a nice kilt.

If you don't mind a small suggestion, cut about 3-4 inches off the belt, and line the buckle up with the center stripe. (I'm a guy who can't forget his "gig line" from 40 years ago in college ROTC!) Just personal opinion however.

Wear the kilt often and proudly, that is the main thing.

A good casual look but of course it would have looked so much cooler with a fire in that fireplace. Everything looks cooler with fire.

I normally don't wear one at work, but I do wear one almost everywhere else, again personal style prevails.

I think so if you are wearing a traditional kilt, if it's a contemporary design then it depends

Again personal style comes in I wear one as I think it helps define the outfit, however I do no wear my dress belt very often in a casual setting, then I wear a more casual belt.

    Jdot84,
    First off you are fine...period.

I generally only wear a sgian when I'm going to be with other kilt wearers, or am dressed more formally. (I know a full-time kilt wearer that always wears flashes and a sgian.)

I always wear a sporran with a traditionally styled kilt (and a wide belt unless I'm wearing a vest or sweater), but you don't have to. (Riverkilt often wears photographer- style vests to hold his stuff).

Again, the point is doing what's right for you.

If you haven't already, you might want to look at the pics in the style threads, to see what others wear when they go causal, and decided what you think looks good for your lifestyle.

    Best regards,

    Good kilt theology...preach it, brother!
