    145th Antigonish Highland Games

The 145th Highland Games are this weekend (July 18-20) in Antigonish, Nova Scotia with the Canadian Scottish Athlete Federation Heavy Games taking place along with all the other events and competitions. There have of course been things all week but this weekend most of the events take place.

These two bands appear to be wearing identical uniforms. Could there be a connection between the Glengarry Pipe Band and the one whose name you did not catch?

    Just something to ponder on!!

    Take care,
    Ham.

They certainly look related, don't they? They were marching in two different places in the parade so I didn't catch that!

I used to march with the Burlington Teen Tour Band in Burlington, Ontario when I was growing up. Every spring we did the Burlington Sound of Music Festival Parade. We were the first AND last entry in the parade. The entire band would do the parade and then walk back to the marshaling area and do the parade again. It was hard going as a piccolo player, but when I became a majorette attired in kilt, wool jacket and glenngarry (closely matching the RCMP pic above) it was a very exhausting performance.

Last week on my way home from a weekend camping trip, the "Thistle and Shamrock" radio program was exploring the musical connections between Cape Breton and Scotland. I suppose the human connection has been discussed here before, but it's easy to understand why there'd be so many pipers in your festival. Impressive numbers there.

    Regards,
    Rex

Thank you, thank you, thank you....my great grandfather Archibald Macdonald was from Skye Glen near Whycocomagh. His father John came over from Skye. Always wanted to visit, haven't made it yet. The pics help me get a sense of Nova Scotia.

Ron, you really DO have to visit Nova Scotia, the terrain is so varried and vastly different to the pics you post of Arizona (a place i want to visit!)
Also, Cephas! welcome to xmarks from another maritimer! Nice to see our Prince Edward Island College of Piping crew over for the event.
    Thanks for sharing the pics!
