Hey all,

The gentleman who played the Queen's physician in our renaissance re-enactment guild passed away from a stroke last Thursday. His memorial service will be on Saturday.

My question is as this will be Masonic service and I do not own a PC or have the time to find a rental for that day nor to find a used tux jacket to modify, would it be appropriate to wear a black or navy blue kilt jacket instead.

In my opinion a PC jacket would be far too formal for a funeral service. A black or dark blue kilt jacket would be fine

Earlier this year when another member of our Renissance fair community died and also had a Masonic service, there were a number of men in attendance wearing PCs and Jabot shirts along with their military service ribbons and did not look overly formal IMO.

This is what I wore to my Uncle's memorial service last year

I think a PC would be far to formal, just as I would not wear my tuxedo to a funeral I would not wear my PC either

PC with (miniature)medals and decorations is generally considered formal attire, Robert. I wouldn't wear it to a funeral, though. A plain black jacket is far better suited for the occasion, or if one only has a tweed jacket, a black armband would signify mourning.

Over here a PC would not be seen at a funeral.An Argyll, black or any coloured tweed, usually green or brown,is the norm.Black ties(not bow ties) and white shirts too,black armbands are not often seen these days.

Personally, I think PC's are too formal for funerals- it's like wearing a tuxedo- unless the person is a direct relation. I'd go with the Argyll or similar.

And of course, I'm sorry for your loss. My clan lost our piper in a motorcycle accident a little over a year ago, so I have a good idea of what you're all going through.

For my stepson's service I wore a PC and all the trimmings, as his Mother asked me to.( quite an eclectic service...dress requested was Hawaiian shirts or kilts!) At other funerals I have worn dark gray tweed or black Argyle jackets and long ties. My condolences.

I was wondering if it would be ok to wear the Glengarry with the kilt jacket and day sporran to the memorial service this afternoon or is that too formal for occasion?
