    kilts in country music

I had the CMT Top 20 going in the background and glanced up at a video by Gary Allen. In the footage from a concert at least one of his guitarist was kilted. lt was in Black and White so I couldn't tell the tartan. I've seen plenty of kilts in rock music but this is a first for country. Now I'm waiting for kilts in Bluegrass.

    Ask and you shall receive.

At the Wind Gap (Pennsylvania) Bluegrass Festival about a month ago, Chad Graves [Resophonic Guitar/Vocals] for the band Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike was kilted throughout their evening set. Tartan kilt, belt, sporran, and hose. I know because I loaned him the outfit.

A friend of mine went to a country music festival near here a few weeks ago and mentioned that someone in one of the bands wore "a skirt and pouch to the side just like you!" to me. (She's a harasser!!) I'm pretty sure she said it was in Gary Allan's band. I keep telling her to send me the picture but she hasn't yet.
After looking around...they guy must be Jamie Hannah.

There's a country duo/group named Rushlow Harris. Their album is Bagpipes Cryin' and has two pipers on the cover. They also have a song by the same name. It's a military tribute song with a storyline of Grandpa's memories of bagpipes crying when bringing fallen friends home. And then it continues with today's soldiers. Very moving piece with some good pipes. I've seen the video and I'm trying to find a link to it, but I don't remember if anyone in the video is wearing a kilt. I downloaded the tune from Napster, and I play it sometimes when I get down and remember my own fallen friends. All and all, a very good tune. I highly recommend it.

Found the video on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x7akbaOLxA
While none of the band members are kilted, there's plenty of pipers in full dress. Enjoy.

Wouldn't that just be the ticket. Both my interests brought together.

Thanks, great video! Couldn't help but notice that the editor was Graham Chisholm and the featured piper sure looked like he was wearing weatherd Chisholm tartan. I notice that tartan alot because it's at the top of my want list.

Bluegrass is an evolution of Celtic music anyways. Then Country is an evolution from bluegrass.
