Thanks everyone for the womens wear input. Fiddlesticks about females not getting to wear a fly plaid. I love the drama of the long sweep down the back. Especially when they hang almost to the ankles. And FYI to any newbie, fly plaid is pronounced,"fly played". Makes sense that plaid would come out played in a Scottish accent.

Jock Scot, thank you for your reply. Not fair that you gents get to swish & we females don't. I swish soooo much better than my husband. But he's practicing. What I'm thinking about wearing (since I must forgo the fly plaid) a long black skirt, white gauze elastic neckline top with a black fitted vest (not the correct word but looks similar and is worn by Scottish women) with a tartan sash. Is it appropriate for females to wear the Balmoral beret? I wear one extremely well. I appreciate any and all advice. Peace!

I've wondered about the Balmoral, too. I'm hoping to order the XMTS clan badge soon and love the look of the Balmoral. My hubby isn't keen on hats and keeps flip-flopping about getting one (even with me saying how wonderful I think they look on a man). Every time I say "well, I would put your hat on when you're not wearing it!" ;) he thinks it sounds like a good idea until I remind him his head is much bigger than mine and it's not like I could wear it that much, so it WOULD be his Balmoral with me just "looking cute" occasionally when I put it on for him (okay, it would also be me going "rats, I want one of these too!"). Then he looks at photos and says he's not sure if he really wants one that badly afterall.

I have another idea for the clan badge for me when he isn't wearing it, so we'll be sharing it, but if he isn't wanting to wear any hats I would love to have a Balmoral to show him what he's missing out on, heheh!

Gypsy, I think your outfit sounds nice! Good luck deciding on what you'll wear and all the accessories

I've seen both Balmoral and Glengarry on women, but am not really sure of the appropriateness of them. I have a tam, myself and prefer it. Female pipers regularly wear the Glengarry.

Can't argue with that! I took this picture of my wife, who I was able to talk into posing for our website. She is a journeyman commercial tile layer and I mostly see her in boots and a hard hat during the week.

Oh crumbs,you have got me at it again!I really do not know what I am talking about,but with that said------here goes!There is no reason, that I am aware of, that says that you ladies cannot wear a balmoral or glengarry and most certainly glengarries are seen being worn by lady members of pipe bands.However, I am sorry to say that,like the kilt etc.these two forms of bonnet are regarded as male attire for no other reason that I can think of than, "its just not done", for a lady to wear them.

Before the barrage of yes buts,no buts,its not fair,to h**l with that, etc.flies accross the ether in my direction, I can only tell you what I have seen in the last 60 something years.Might I also add that you ladies really should realise(you do anyway,don't you?) that you are far too subtle to bother about wanting to wear male attire-----in this case you wear a tam,berret or some such bonnet that is far more stylish than any of the gear us men wear.And quite right too!
