It looks as though you may be able to remove a little more material. You cut thru two pieces of fabric at a time. Barb recommends cutting only one side at a time. That way you get to reduce the thickness of each "excess".

Well, it's a 6 yard kilt not an 8 yard. The amount that I removed really freed up the thickness greatly. I have normally made 4 yard kilts and have not needed to remove any excess. The way the inner pleats land in the 6 yard kilt I'm making, seemed over kill. Besides, I don't reveal everything I do and its order as I construct this. Another reason I decided to leave more material, the thread that shows Steve (Freedom Kilts) repair those old military kilts that fell apart really got me thinking.
The kilt I made before this one was an Infants box-pleat. After working on the past 5 kilts I've nearly completed (this is the 5th), I'm probably going to make box-pleats exclusively. The infants box-pleat was the 4th kilt.

The stress of the kilt is carried by the canvas interfacing. So, IMHO, the kilt will work either way.

Looks like it's going well. I'll just sit here in the cheerleader section and wait for the final pictures.

I "get" what you're saying -- cutting each edge individually allows you to "feather" the line of raw edges, with no two edges laying atop each other. Nice detail point, I'll keep it in mind on future projects (of which there are too many to list, and not nearly enough time!).
(And yes, I have Barb's book, just haven't gotten it all quite memorized yet )
