Just my opinions. Your mileage may vary.

Also, no one has yet mentioned the style threads. Casey...look at the "Casual" and "Dressy" photo threads and you'll see lots of examples of what we're talking about.

Match your leathers is always a good policy, and most folks avoid tall hose and flashes while wearing boots....that's my $.02.

    And welcome to the forum.

Hey! What am I, chopped liver?

I see you are in upstate SC. It's a quick drive up to Franklin, NC, from where you are at, and we will take care of you.

What others have told you here is pretty spot on. A simple black leather sporran will do you great for casual wear with your black boots. I'd wear your hose scrunched down with the boots, but any time you wear them pulled up, you'll want flashes. I prefer a solid color to tone with the kilt, but tartan flashes are fine, too, if you must have them.

OK, looks like I'll be set once I get my kilt, black belt, and black sporran, but here's another question.

Folks are recommending wearing the hose/stockings scrunched down with combat boots. Is it ok to wear a knife[skean dubh(sp?)] tucked into a scrunched down stocking, or should one forgo the knife if not wearing flashes, or should one just forgo the knife all together?

Thanks for all of the advice guys.

PS- the wife has OK'ed the kilt purchase, now just have to wait for payday

Casey....there are no rules....explore....experiment...enjoy the FREEDOM....

Sorry I should, but don't recall this X Mark's members name (olde age) but here's a pic of a Sgian Dubh tucked in pushed down hose and boot.

And you gotta look close at this one, but here's a pic of flashes worn with pushed down hose. They're tartan to match the kilt.

If the KILTED POLICE are pulling off these looks then I wouldn't worry one bit about the so called kilt police...

If you look closely you'll see my Cold Steel Culloden model sgian in my scrunched sock in these pics. The sheath is plastic, I added velcro on one side, which keeps it in place.

As for the kilt police, don't let anyone tell you they don't exist, 'cause I is one.

    Best regards,

I personally don't wear the flashes or sgian dubh wit hose down but it is all personal choice Just wear what looks good to you ( I mean your wife ) and life will be good.

    Thumbs up

    Wow!!

The firewall at work blocks the majority of pictures on the site, so I haven't been able to see the pics posted for examples. Now that I'm at home, while it takes forever to download the pictures over dial-up, it's well worth the wait. Those are some really sharp looking kilts. I hope to look half as good when I get mine. It's also got me wondering if I can talk my AIC into letting me wear my kilt to work, as long as I have on my duty belt...I'll have to work out a good way to ask him that would be received well. After I'm comfortable in the kilt of course

I do have one question regarding the pics though. That one of the gentleman in the black/white/gray/night camo. Those pleats are going all across the front, with no apron, is that normal, or acceptable? I have to say, it makes me think more of a skirt than a kilt, and I'm not sure I could wear something like that.....

Some of the first models of Utilikilts had pleats all around. Could/might/maybe one of them early models of Utilikilt. Contemporary kilts are always evolving. Doubt its backwards.
